Air Cargo Demand The International Air Transport Association (IATA) shared data regarding air cargo demand for full-year 2025 and December 2025. Total air cargo demand (measured in cargo tonne-kilometers) increased by 3.4% compared to 2024, while international operations recorded a 4.2% increase. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTK), increased by 3.7% compared to November 2024 and by 5.1% for international operations. IATA stated that unit revenues declined by 1.5% year-on-year throughout the year. This decline was recorded as the most limited decrease of the past three years, driven by supply and demand balances returning to more normal levels and the gradual normalization of exceptionally high unit revenues seen during and after the COVID period. Despite competitive pressures on air cargo pricing power, unit revenues remained 37.2% above 2019 levels. In his assessment, IATA Director General Willie Walsh stated: “ Air cargo delivered a strong performance in 2025, with demand increasing by 3.4% year-on-year. Strong global e-commerce activity continued to drive volumes higher despite rising tariffs in trade relations with the United States, the removal of de minimis tariff exemptions, and ongoing policy uncertainty. ” Walsh noted that the air cargo industry adapted rapidly during this process. He stated that companies supported global businesses and supply chains by accelerating shipments ahead of the implementation of tariffs. He also emphasized that, amid stagnation in U.S.-Asia trade, the sector reshaped its operations by adapting to rising demand within Asia and between Asia and Europe.
